"Writing and Illustrating the Graphic Novel: Everything You Need to Know to Create Great Graphic Works" by Mike Chinn is an excellent work. It provides a comprehensive overview of the principles and processes of the art and is comparable to Will Eisner's "Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative." The difference between the two lies in Eisner's emphasis on the "what" and Chinn's emphasis on the "how." The books shine with equal brilliance, but if I had to choose only one of them for my library, I would probably choose Chinn's because of its more practical approach.

I was very curious about the process of illustrating a graphic novel. I have a story, but I lack the artistic skills to do the graphics myself. THis book showd me just how much I do not know. Very helpful gave me a lot to think about.

After reading several books on the subject, I honestly feel that this is the best when it comes to get a good feel for the industry and the genre. It is not too wordy, as some on the topic, but it is not too skimpy either. I really feel I learned something from this book.
